On The Road Again....
The Portugese Colony of Macau
Macau is a Portugese colony located only 65km from Hong Kong island, but
predates it by some 300 years. It is the oldest and only remaining European
colony in Asia, and the last of Portugal's colonies.
Like its neighbor Hong Kong, Macau will return to Chinese rule on 20 December 1999.
Macau's population is approximately 500,000, but increasing rapidly at 3.7 percent a year. The sharp growth rate is due less to births than to a steady trickle of immigration from China.
